The new committee has a proposal to develop its own track but needs the support of Greyhounds Queensland.
Greyhounds Queensland should consider our proposal for the following reasons:
1. There have been no alternative sites investigated. Greyhounds Queensland is focused purely on Logan. There is no fall back plan currently in the planning of Greyhounds Queensland and this would have a devastating effect should we encounter another crisis such as the problems with the EI virus and the Albion Park grandstand.
2. There is no surety that Logan will proceed without a large investment to address potential environmental issues.
3. With water being a primary issue for the future if Queensland how will Greyhounds Queensland provide adequate water for track usage. What are the engineering costs and environmental issues yet to be faced in building a dam at Logan?
4. The industry is in crisis with no one turn track to cater for dogs that previously at the Gold Coast. Injuries have increased whilst participation has waned.
5. Dogs are being transferred interstate which is creating smaller fields, smaller turnover and smaller income. Trainers and breeders are reluctant to breed because of an uncertainty of the future and the amount of time it will take before Logan is operational and providing a venue for dogs that can only handle tracks like Parklands.
6. The failure to provide a safe alternative to the Gold Coast track has seen the overuse of Albion Park and Ipswich and the consequential increase in dogs failing to chase and breaking down. Many break downs have been serious. The continued failure to quickly provide an alternative to the Parklands track has animal welfare implications if injuries continue due to animals being forced to race at venues unsuitable for their physic and conformation.
